Find a lead sheet (I chose an original, called Upstate)

Make a chord chart including an introduction, modulation, and ending.  Make a schematic diagram.

Put the chord chart into Band in a Box

Assignment 8

Save the Band in a Box arrangement as a MIDI file.  Open the MIDI file in Sibelius.  Create two trumpets.  Enter the original melody up to the modulation in the first trumpet.  Copy the melody and paste it into the second trumpet part.  Change the notes of the second trumpet to be harmony part underneath the first trumpet.

Assignment 9

Create three trombones.  Use them to punctuate the trumpet parts in three-part harmony.

Assignment 10

Create five saxophones.  Have them play the melody after the modulation in five part harmony, i.e. with the melody doubled down an octave.  Try "drop 2" voicing to help the melody in the first alto saxophone stand out.

Assignment 11

Add fills.

Assignment 12

Add rehearsal letters.  Change the names of the instruments in the score (first page complete names, second page abbreviations).  Add chord symbols to the piano part.

Assignment 14

Add catalog information.  Add dynamic markings and articulations.  Save as a web page.

Assignment 15

Transpose the score.  Deploy on the Internet.
