"The first Lab was opened at The University of Puerto Rico Music Department around 1974 when professors Aponte and Schwartz got an Arp 2600. Neither of these really worked for electroacoustic music, so the Lab didn't take shape until Argetinian Eduardo Kusnir came in 1977. Since 1978 I've been the director of the Lab. I organized the first concert wholly dedicated to EM which took place in 1975 in Old San Juan. Since then numerous concerts have taken place specially on campus where
we offered in '91 and '93 the first and second International Electroacoustic Music Sample with guests such as Ricardo dal Farra (Argentina) Julio d'Ecrivain (Venezuela) Paulo Chagas (Brazil),
Chris Chafe, John Chowning, Neil Leonard, Vivian Alderberg (USA), and Adolfo Nuñez (Spain) among others. We turned digital around 1982."

"I first came in contac with EM at the University of Pittsburgh in 1974 where I studied with Frank McCarty. Other persons in PR who have done EM are, William Ortiz while he was at Buffallo, Raymond Torres while at UCLA, Jose Montalvo (who studied in Indiana), Luis M. Alvarez (Indiana), and Alejandro Jose Dominican (who studied with me).
